Forefront Advanced System Tools (FAST)
Overview
Forefront Advanced System Tools – or FAST – from Certified Security Solutions, Inc. (CSS) is designed to help drive Identity Management projects significantly faster and more affordably than previously possible. FAST contains a variety of utilities, software components, and custom FIM Management Agents to make Microsoft’s Forefront Identity Manager deployments more robust.
CSS’ FAST maximizes the value our customers obtain from Microsoft’s Forefront Identity Manager, and the products they already have in their IT environment. FAST enables even large enterprises to realize a rapid return (weeks not months or years) on their Identity Management investments.
Product Components
FAST Certificate Management Companion. Extend the capabilities of FIM Certificate Manager by overseeing all certificates issued from a PKI through the Certificate Management Companion. Create customized notices that automate and email detailed reports on all your certificates, such as SSL certificates, certificates for computers, RADIUS servers, key recovery agents, and network devices.
In the Real World: Numerous CSS large-enterprise customers – from manufacturing to financial services to large retail outlets – using Forefront Certificate Management services needed to eliminate the manual, time and labor-intensive processes involved with tracking CRLs, SSL, device and other non-identity certificates. CSS built the Certificate Management Companion in efforts to provide a comprehensive certificate reporting engine that delivers customized, automated inspections, notifications, and reports of certificate and CRL expirations.
FAST Request Web Part. Users and site administrators can now submit requests right from their SharePoint site for Windows group memberships. Give your site administrators the ability to manage access to pages from within SharePoint and FIM rather than having to go through administrators or help desk.
In the Real World: Multiple Fortune 500 CSS clients needed a solution to have business rules automatically govern user access when adding users to their SharePoint sites. FAST Request Web Part connects SharePoint to FIM and your business rules so these clients can implement security levels seamlessly.
FAST SPML Management Agent. A Custom Management Agent used to provision users and manage passwords to third-party Identity Management systems or to Cloud-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications that support the Service Provisioning Markup Language (SPML) standard.
In the Real World: Multiple CSS clients actively using FIM wanted to continue to rely on FIM as an identity management solution when integrating with cloud based applications. FAST SPML Management Agent lets them securely do so.
FAST Certificate-Based Provisioning. Leverage the high-assurance source of user credentials and information that Common Access Cards (CAC) provide. FAST Certificate-Based Provisioning is a secure, scalable way to take the information from the CAC and use it to seed an identity management provisioning process. Users authenticate with a smart card, connecting to a portal that gathers the information from their certificate and uses it to kick off a FIM provisioning workflow. FAST Certificate-Based Provisioning eliminates the delays caused by the manual workflow routing process and manual provisioning process.
In the Real World: CSS created this solution for the US Army allowing visiting users to an army base the ability to securely request real-time access. The solution leverages a trusted authentication source, in the Army’s case its smart cards, to authenticate the user and initiate the provisioning process within the identity management system.
